Protecting patient information at scale: COVID-19 data in South Africa

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a complex challenge for health systems, including for cyber security. Darryl G Vine (CEO and Medical Director, Intelligent Medical Systems) and Kwadzanai Majaji (IT Manager, Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital) present a case study from South Africa outlining key considerations in protecting Covid-19 patient information at scale; and lessons learned from providing the secure data transmission of Covid-19 laboratory results on behalf of the Department Of Health in South Africa.
